1. July 12, 2006

Midterm exam will be held at CLH L on July 13 at 6:00 pm. Exam will be 2 hours long. It will have three parts:
Part A: 25 multiple choice questions (25*1=25 marks)
Part B: 2 out of 3 short questions (7.5*2=15 marks)
Part C: 3 out of 4 4-part problem solving questions (20*3 = 60 marks)
Exam will cover materials from Ch 9 to 12, excluding the appendices of Ch 11 and Ch 12. Exam questions will be
similar to the assignment questions posted on the course website.

2. July 13, 2006
There is a mistake in the solutions to Assignment 1. To solve 'Problems and Applications' question 2(c) of Ch 9,
use the formula for Okun's law given on page 37 of the textbook. In the short-run, the unemployment rate will
increase by 4 percent. The long-run analysis mentioned in the solutions is o.k.
3. August 7, 2006
Final Exam will cover Ch 9, 10, 11, 12, Appendix to Ch 12, 13, 14, Appendix to Ch 14, 16 and Ch 17 ( up to the end of first paragraph on page 515).
Appendix to Ch 11 and Ch 15 are NOT included in the exam. I will give more or less equal weight on all the chapters to prepare the exam question.
Final exam will be 3 hours long. Final exam format and difficulty level will be similar to the midterm exam.
I suggest you to work out the assignments and go through the midterm exam solutions posted on the course website.
You can ignore the questions from Assignment 8 which are outside the scope of the materials covered up to the end of first paragraph on page 515.
If you have any questions regarding the exam materials, please feel free to stop by during the following hours:

Lab Hours (TEL 2032): 8th, 9th and 10th Aug from 12:30 to 5:30 pm

4. August 10, 2006

Final Exam Marking Scheme:

Part A [30 marks] TWENTY multiple-choice questions – 1.5 marks each

Part B [10 marks] ONE out of TWO short questions

Part C [60 marks] THREE out of FOUR problem solving / analytical questions – 20 marks each

5. August 31, 2006
For your unofficial course grades, please click on the link - "Course Grades (Corrected)", which is posted today.
There are calculation mistakes on the grades posted on August 28. I took 30% of midterm exam marks and 70%
of final exam marks to compute the weighted average. But it should be actually 40% of midterm and 60% of final.
I have made the corrections which are reflected on the grades posted today (August 31). Nobody's grade has declined.
However, the grades of eight students have improved. I will submit grade change forms to change their grades.
I am sorry for any inconveniences resulting from my errors.
