Personal Information
I received my B.A. at McGill and my M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Rochester. I was on the faculty at Queen's from 1972 to 2016. I also was a visiting scholar at the University of British Columbia (1977-78, 1986), Stanford (1979-80), Australian National University (1987), Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1994 and 2004), University of Colorado, Boulder (2011), and the National Bureau of Economic Research (2012). My research has been in the area of Economic History, focusing mainly but not exclusively on Canada. Ann Carlos and I have written extensively on aboriginal history.
