6.1 The determinants of unemployment rates and spell duration
-------------------------------------------------------------
The programs used here are straightforward modifications of the programs used to analyze the various scenarios in the estimation stage. There are 16 permutations of institutions, preferences, labour market parameters, and human capital parameters to consider. Two of them are identical to the base scenarios used in the estimation step, leaving another seven per country. Here is how they are organized:

Germany:
1: use US labour market parameters (jc, jc, jv)
2: use US HK parameters (de, du, df)
3: use US unemployment benefits (rather than AG/AH)
4: 1&2
5: 1&3
6: 2&3
7: 1&2&3
US:
1: use German labour market parameters (jc, jc, jv)
2: use German HK parameters (de, du, df)
3: use German unemployment benefits (AG/AH)
4: 1&2
5: 1&3
6: 2&3
7: 1&2&3

6.2 Shocks and Turbulence
-------------------------
The program used to generate the data presented in figure 8 is a modification of the "Analyse.java" program used elsewhere. The two main differences are that first, it generates a larger number of output files (e.g. "Stats0.csv" to "Stats15.csv" instead of just "Stats.csv") reflecting the different levels of turbulence considered. The main results are contained in the table "turbulence.csv". Second, it has been parallelized: the "master" process is called "meister", whereas the "Analyse" programs are slave processes. Remember to update the server IP before running them.

6.3 Hartz IV
------------
The "HartzIV05" and "HartzIV06" programs are again straightforward modifications of the "Analyse" program that include the changed UI policies. "Hartz05transition" starts by simulating the baseline scenario to get a representative cross-section of the population in this case, and then applies the HartzIV 2005 policy for 1080 periods, calculating aggregates for each period. The resulting data is used to construct figure 10.

Appendix
--------
The programs used to obtain the results for scenario 6 presented in the appendix are included. See above for instructions.
