Gary Koop, Stuart McIntyre, James Mitchell, and Aubrey Poon, "Regional Output Growth in the United Kingdom: More Timely and Higher Frequency Estimates from 1970?", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol. 35, No. 2, 2020, pp. 176-197. The two data files are ASCII files in DOS format organized as .csv files. They are zipped in the file kmmp-data.zip. Unix/Linux users should use "unzip -a". The zip file contains two ASCII data files. 1. Annual Regional GVA.csv: This file contains the annual regional GVA growth data from 1967 to 2017. For each of the 12 regions, data are presented for nominal GVA (successive first releases), nominal GVA (December 2017 data release) and real GVA (December 2017 data release). Data are log first differenced and presented as year-on-year changes in % (see Section 2.2 of paper). Row 1 in the csv indicates whether the data are for nominal GVA (first or December 2017 data release) or real GVA (December 2017 data release). Row 2 in the csv indicates one of the twelve regions. Source: ONS. 2. Quarterly.csv: This file contains the quarterly UK GVA growth data and the quarterly indicator data from 1967Q1 to 2017Q4. The quarterly UK GVA data comprise: UK nominal GVA growth (successive ONS first releases), UK nominal GVA growth (December 2017 data release from ONS) and UK real GVA growth (December 2017 data release from ONS). Data are log first differenced and presented as quarter-on-quarter changes in % (see Section 2.2 of paper). Source: ONS. The quarterly indicator data comprise: UK CPI inflation (source: ONS), UK Bank Rate (interest rate, source: Bank of England), the UK/US exchange rate (source: Bank of England?s Millennium Database), Brent crude oil prices (in $, source: Thomson Reuters Datastream), the regional claimant count measure of unemployment (denoted "Regional Name: cc") in %, seasonally adjusted (source: http://www.nomisweb.co.uk) and the regional CBI data measuring business optimism (denoted "Region Name: CBI"). Except for the Bank Rate and CPI inflation, all variables are log first differenced and presented as quarter-on-quarter changes in % (see Section 2.2 of main paper). The Bank Rate is presented 'as is' in %. CPI inflation is measured in % as the log difference relative to the same quarter a year ago. The regional CBI data (the Business Optimism Indicator) are presented in % (and are the CBI data, measuring the balance in optimism, divided by 10; source: Thomson Reuters Datastream). These CBI data are produced for 11 regions of the UK (these reflect the NUTS 1 regional definitions with the exception of London and the South East of England where separate data are not available). Further data details are provided in the Online Data Appendix (Appendix A) to the main paper. See https://www.escoe.ac.uk/regionalnowcasting/ for quarterly regional GVA data updates with downloadable Excel files. James Mitchell James.Mitchell [AT] wbs.ac.uk
